네 기둥은 어떻게 이루어질까요?

네 개의 시간 단위에서 시작합니다

사주의 기본 골격은 태어난 연, 월, 일, 시에서 시작합니다.[1]

이 네 시간 단위를 각각 하나의 기둥으로 설명합니다.

그래서 차트의 기본 골격은 다음 네 부분입니다.

연 · 월 · 일 · 시

여기까지는 사람의 성격이나 미래를 해석하는 단계가 아니라, 차트를 이루는 구조를 확인하는 단계입니다.

한 기둥은 두 글자로 이루어집니다

각 기둥은 두 글자로 표현되고, 네 기둥 전체는 여덟 글자가 됩니다.[1]

이 여덟 글자 구조 때문에 한국어에서는 사주팔자라는 표현도 사용합니다.

네 기둥 × 두 글자 = 여덟 글자

숫자와 구조를 먼저 이해하면 이후 천간과 지지를 배울 때 훨씬 쉽게 연결할 수 있습니다.

두 글자는 천간과 지지의 짝입니다

각 기둥의 두 글자는 천간과 지지의 한 쌍으로 이루어집니다.[1]

즉 차트 전체는 연·월·일·시 각각의 천간·지지 한 쌍이 모인 구조입니다.

이 글에서는 천간 10개와 지지 12개의 개별 의미를 설명하지 않습니다. 어떤 글자가 어떤 오행인지, 어떤 성향을 뜻하는지도 다루지 않습니다.

먼저 “한 기둥에는 천간과 지지가 함께 있다”는 구조만 이해하면 충분합니다.

위치와 의미는 같은 이야기가 아닙니다

연, 월, 일, 시라는 위치가 있다는 사실과, 각 위치에 특정한 가족·성격·사건 의미를 부여하는 것은 다른 단계입니다.

이번 글은 위치와 구조만 설명합니다.

따라서 다음과 같은 식의 해석은 여기서 확정하지 않습니다.

- 특정 기둥이 특정 가족의 운명을 결정한다.
- 특정 위치가 직업이나 결혼 결과를 정한다.
- 한 기둥만 보고 사람의 삶을 판단한다.

차트의 골격을 아는 것과 개인을 해석하는 것은 구분해서 보아야 합니다.

세로 배열은 이번 글의 핵심이 아닙니다

실제 사주표에서는 천간과 지지를 위아래로 배치하는 형식을 볼 수 있습니다.

하지만 이 세로 표시 방식은 이번 입문 글에서 반드시 익혀야 할 핵심 구조가 아닙니다.

따라서 특정 화면이나 표의 위·아래 배치를 사주의 필수 규칙처럼 가르치지 않습니다.

기억해야 할 핵심은 배치 모양이 아니라 다음 관계입니다.

It begins with four units of time

The basic structure of Saju begins with the year, month, day, and hour of birth.[1]

These four units of time are described as four Pillars.

So the chart begins with these four parts:

Year · Month · Day · Hour

At this stage, we are identifying the structure of the chart, not interpreting a person’s personality or future.

Each Pillar contains two characters

Each Pillar is represented by two characters, making eight characters across the four Pillars.[1]

This eight-character structure is one reason the Korean expression Saju Palja is used.

4 pillars × 2 characters = 8 characters

Understanding this simple structure makes it easier to connect the chart later with the Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches.

The two characters form a Stem–Branch pair

The two characters in each Pillar form a pair of a Heavenly Stem and an Earthly Branch.[1]

The full chart therefore consists of four Stem–Branch pairs: one for the Year, one for the Month, one for the Day, and one for the Hour.

This article does not explain the individual meanings of the ten Heavenly Stems or the twelve Earthly Branches. It also does not explain which Element a character belongs to or what personality trait it might represent.

For now, it is enough to understand one structural idea: each Pillar contains a Stem and a Branch together.

Position and interpretation are different things

The existence of Year, Month, Day, and Hour positions is one thing. Assigning specific family, personality, or event meanings to those positions is another step.

This article deals only with position and structure.

So it does not establish claims such as:

- a certain Pillar determines the fate of a certain family member;
- a certain position determines career or marriage outcomes;
- one Pillar by itself is enough to judge a person’s life.

Knowing the chart structure and interpreting an individual should remain separate tasks.

Vertical layout is not the main point here

In Saju charts, you may encounter layouts that place Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches vertically.

But this display format is not part of the minimal structure that readers need to learn in this introductory article.

For that reason, this article does not teach a particular vertical screen or table arrangement as a required rule of Saju.

The important relationship to remember is not the visual arrangement but the structure itself:

Year · Month · Day · Hour → Four Pillars → one Stem–Branch pair in each Pillar → eight characters in total
